The BJP government introduced Sagarmala Project which will promote port-led direct and indirect development and to provide infrastructure to transport goods to and from ports quickly. It received in-principle approval of the Cabinet in March, 2015. The National Perspective Plan detailing the contours of the project was released in April 2016.
Rs. 390 crores have been released for 35 projects taken up in 2015-16 & 2016-17 financial years.
Rs.3,34,000 crores are needed from 2017-19, however, details about financing of the project are not yet clear.
Since only the approval & funds have been released, there is no progress that has been seen on the ground. Hence, it has been given the status “Inadequate Progress”.
