Prime Minister Narendra Modi has discussed this issue several times in his speeches and even launched a website to solicit feedback from the citizens. The Parliamentary Standing Committee has submitted its report making certain recommendations in this regard along with the viewpoints of the political parties. Major political parties have supported the idea of holding simultaneous elections but highlighted several practical challenges and therefore have expressed their apprehensions. Election Commission has submitted its comments regarding the same indicating that it would conduct simultaneous elections if there is political consensus. Draft report has been submitted in this regard by Law Commission of India as well.
However, no actions have been initiated by the Law Ministry in this regard thus far.
Since, there has been consultations about this promise but no action from the government thus far, the performance against this promise has been classified as “Broken”
