Implement the National Litigation Policy in letter and spirit to reduce average pendency time of cases

BJP Government has not launched any fresh National Litigation Policy or amended National Litigation Policy, 2010. This is important since nearly the governments are the litigants in nearly 46% of cases pending across Courts, according to the note published by Department of Justice on its website dated June 13, 2017. An undated note from Ministry of law claims that the National Litigation Policy 2015 is under consideration. However, the note published by the department dated June 13, 2017 makes no mention of this consideration of National Litigation Policy. It merely mentions “NLP is expected shortly”. According to this Hindustan Times report, the government has approached Law Commission of India for help in drafting National Litigation Policy. However, no such policy exists till date.
