Initiate the New Health Policy

Fulfilled

India’s demographic dividend is contingent upon the healthcare and education facilities provided to it. Hence, a coherent National Health Policy becomes crucial. Union Cabinet approved the National Health Policy, 2017 in its meeting on March 15th, 2017

The policy is comprehensive in its approach and robustly covers all aspects of healthcare. However, some aspects of the policy needs to be discussed and debated. It has set target to achieve a life expectancy of 70 years by 2025, while in 2015 India has a life expectancy of 68.3. The contours of India’s health care delivery majorly depends on its health expenditure.

The policy is silent on the measures to increase the health expenditure of government to 2.5% of GDP by 2025.
