Explore ways to reduce the daily burden of carrying books to school for children using technology

E-Basta, an app launched by the BJP government, is an app designed to reduce the burden of school bag of students and provide ease of access from anywhere. More than 1500 school level books are available on E-Basta. No framework has been published by the BJP government to integrate the app (E-basta) with the existing system in the absence of which the promise cannot be considered fulfilled.

Further, it must be noted that only 21.3% children have computers to use. according, according to a Pratham report published in 2018. It was 19.6% in 2014. Therefore, only 1.7% growth has been witnessed under BJP government. It is not clear how the government intends to reduce the burden of carrying physical books in the absence of availbility of computers.

In November 2018, Ministry of Human Resource and Development released guidelines regulating the weight of the school bag. However, the assumption that a mere order issued by the Ministry can reduce the actual weight of the school bag is misplaced.

Therefore the performance against this promise has been classified as “Inadequate Progress”.
