Set up a National Judicial Commission for the appointment of judges in higher judiciary.

Stalled

Supreme Court in October 2015 had struck down the legislation passed by the Parliament that sought to change the process of appointment of Judges. Supreme Court declared the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act unconstitutional on the ground that it violates the judicial independence. since the Act sought to transfer the power of appointment of the Judges from Collegium System to a Commission comprising the Chief Justice of India, the two most senior judges of the Supreme Court, the Law Minister, and two eminent persons nominated for a three-year term by a committee consisting of the Chief Justice, the Prime Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Since the government’s attempts to fulfill the promise has been held by the Supreme Court, there is little the government can now do except to address the concerns raised by the Court. Hence, this has been classified as “Stalled”
