Will set up institutions of Indian System of Medicine. We will start integrated courses for Indian System of Medicine (ISM) and modern science and Ayurgenomics

Inadequate Progress

The government has established several institutes over its five year tenure. North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy was inaugurated at Shillong, in December, 2016 and currently offer admissions for courses in Ayurveda and Homeopathy. It must, however, be noted that the cabinet approval for setting up North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy at Shillong was accorded on 27th March 2008, i.e. under UPA government. Therefore, bulk of the work happened under UPA government.

All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi has  became functional in 2016. It must be noted that the approval for the Institute was granted by the then Vajpayee Government’s Finance Ministry in 2003. The Institute’s website shows that the Institute started operating as early as 2013 and Prof. (Dr.) Abhinanyu Kumar served as its first Director from 2013 to 2017. It’s journal exist even from the year 2011. Therefore, it is unclear as to what the inauguration done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2017 was when the Institute’s record shows it had been functioning for nearly 6 years already.

Another institute, North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM), Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh began its OPD operations. It must be noted that the the Cabinet approval for setting up this Institute was granted in February 2008 on the recommendation of Planning Commission. The Audit report of the Institute exists from 2012-13. All this indicates that the bulk of the work was carried out under UPA government and the BJP government has approved further construction work.

In 2018, the foundation stone for National Institute of Homeopathy at Narela, Delhi was laid. In 2019, the foundation stone for National Institute for Unani Medicine was laid at Ghaziabad. It must be clarified that foundation stone means that the construction would now begin.

There has been no mention of starting integrated courses for ISM and modern science and Ayurgenomics as per Ministry of AYUSH’s latest annual report.

The number of courses in Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha has remain stagnant at 10 and no new courses have been added during the tenure of BJP government. No new integrated courses have been introduced in the field of Indian System of Medicine and modern science and Ayurgenomics, as per AYUSH ministry records.

Above very clearly establishes that very little progress has happened under BJP government on the promise
