900 new Primary Health Centers will be built

Inadequate Progress

By: Ashwin Mb

Aam Aadmi Party government has already set up 158 Primary Health Centers (named Mohalla Clinics) as of 31st March 2017. All these clinics are operational. The budget 2017-18 makes a budgetary provision of 250 crore for increasing the number of Mohalla Clinics from the present 158 to 1000.

The clinics offer more than 200 free diagnostic  tests along with 110 essential drugs. The 158 Mohalla Clinics have treated 31 lakh patients according to the 2017-18 Outcome Budget Document.

This initiative of Delhi Government has received world-wide recognition and appreciation including from the former UN General Secretary Kofi Annan, and Former Prime Minister of Norway and Director General of World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland. The initiative now is mentioned in Stanford Social Innovation Review Journal.

However, the progress is inadequate considering only 18% of the promises clinics are operational with half the tenure over. Hence, the performance of the government is classified as “Inadequate Progress”
