Generic medicines will be promoted to reduce medical expenses

Mohalla clinics have not only improved the accessibility for medical care but also for the availability of essential drugs. The clinics offer 110 essential drugs for free and all the prescribed drugs are generic drugs. Nearly 31 lakh patients have availed treatment at these mohalla clinics for free of costs and nearly 1 lakh plus have had free diagnostic tests done.

According to a Hindustan Times study, the sale of medicines has dropped in a couple of private pharmacies located near govt hospitals due to availability of free medicines. In addition, Aam Aadmi Mohalla clinic opened a mini-medicine vending machine that can dispense 50 different types of prescribed medicines.
